me in Kuala Lumpur, August 2009.

The time has come to end this blog. Well, not really but I decided on moving this to the new platform.

I still remember how, when and why I started writing  the xaustraliax blog. It was on one July's evening of 2003 at Kazue's apartment in Victoria Park, Perth, Australia. It was established as a tool for my friends in Poland so they could keep on track with my life in Australia. Good times( I was so young then :)) Then, I moved to Malaysia and I kept writing this for the same purpose. I was receiving some positive feedback and was happy abt this. Years were passing and beside describing my life overseas,  that blog has became a place to write abt things that are important to me, sharing photos, articles, etc. Thank you for all the comments you left here.

So why moving to the new blog? First of all I feel that wordpress gives me more possibilities of managing my blog. I simply like it more then LJ now. The other thing ( that more important one) is that I m not an expat anymore and most probably I will never be one again. Starting this blog was my way to cope with that new situation I found myself when I moved to Perth in 2002. Now,  I m settled here in Warsaw and even if this place is not as nice as Australia or Malaysia (in this case of that country, I m talking about the weather and living in expat standards), I simply like my life here. I realized this not long time ago and I feel this is a factor for changing something. I choose to call my new blog "hold tight"  because even if I am pretty happy with my life, it is still everyday struggle against those smaller and bigger things that hit us everyday. It is a constant struggle with this world's stupidy, people's egoism, stress, etc. This is why we all have to just hold it tight and keep trying ...

Thanks to the new platform I was able to move all my xaustraliax's posts, so I wont miss any of my past entries from here.

I hope YOU all will follow my new blog. Update your bookmarks and "visit me" from time to time. Your comments are very much welcome. Just like always.

miso + reading

Miso is this type of food that I cannot really imagine living without. I remember that this traditional Japanese soup was introduced to me by my Japanese roommate when i was living in Australia. I recall those times I was called a "Miso King" .. and when u hear this from a Japanese... u know it is a true honor :) And even though  miso is a very common soup for most of the Asian restaurants in Poland, I really enjoy making it at home from time to time. Miso paste and fresh tofu. I remember Kazue was always telling me that miso is good for cold ....
I got the Burning Fight book over a week ago. This is just a fantastic combination of words about great music, people and the ideas, simply all of that which had such a big impact on me. 90's hardcore scene was something amazing - something that made me straight edge, something that turn me vegan, something that sharpen the way I see the world today.

Now - the bad news. Due to my flu, I will be missing the Earth Crisis show that will be happening tomorrow in Cracow. They play some ridiculous tour with 6 other bands which names are impossible to remember. I totally dont care abt those bands (sorry) but I will miss EC and that's a serious problem. It is not that I have never seen them ( I saw both EC and Path Of Resistance) but it just sucks when they play in Poland and u miss them. I just feel too weak to travel to other city and go to this show.

I edited all my pics from my Asia 09 tour and I uploaded them on my flickr and FB. Those of u who share FB with me could already see it. Those who read this blog have to wait a bit until i post the link here.

It is just a Lj mobile update test. Downloaded an LJ app for my G1 and now checking how it works. Not sure if I can paste any pic, using this app. Watching Fringe at the same time. Just few episodes more to go. Also, finally started editing my pics from Borneo. Hope to upload them to Facebook tonight. Work tomorrow.

books I m want to read soon

"In Asia" by Tiziano Terzani. I guess for Italians, Terzani is like Ryszard Kapuscinski for Polish people. A true guru of reportage. As Aisa is quite close to my heart, I want to find out how was there, back in the time (the book contains series of reportages that were written in 70' and 80'). I m sure that Terzani's book is a perfect way to find this out.

"Nocni Wedrowcy" (Wanderers of the Night) by Wojciech Jagielski. Latest work of this well-known (and maybe the finest) Polish journalist/reporter. This time, Jagielski writes about Africa, about Uganda in particular, focusing on drama of Africa's kids-soldiers. Must be a pretty moving and shocking piece of literature.

Going to read this asap, even if lack of time is my worst enemy and i simply cannot read much these days.

Had a quite pleasent weekend. Worked on Saturday (14 hours) and had Sunday off. Woke up around 11 am, then watched few episodes of FRINGE (Have to say that this is quite good TV show, even if I m not huge of X-files stuff). Then sent Ewa to work, came back home, went out for a moment and then did some online shopping after I was back home. Tomorrow, I m starting my "6 days working week".

friday evening

So I drove to the end of airstrip of the Okecie Warsaw airport today in the evening and watched planes take offs. Aircraft spotting is a huge scene around the world  and i can totally understand why. There is something fascinating in the air, when those machines are going up. It is even not so laud. I feel it is actually better to admire this moment from outside the plane, then sitting inside and thinking " it is not going to crash, it is not going to crash..".

Open Hardcore festival in Piaseczno tomorrow. I m going to see Disfear!  Yeah - simply cant wait. Then, roadtrip to Czech Rep. in the  next 3 days time (first Prague and tour around their finest Euro vegan restaurants) and then Fluff Fest ( Trial reunion, Have Heart and Victims among many other great bands). After return from this hc camp... another, a bit longer trip is waiting for me.

Ok, I m off to bed to watch Wicker Park.

Morrissey in Warsaw

One of my dreams came true and I got to see Morrissey's show a couple of nights ago. It was kinda medium (means huge for me) size show but it was ok. Moz gave a great  show (changed his shirt at least 4 times ... yeah, he showed his chest too :) ) and his musicians totally ruled too (great skills). As you might know, Morrissey is not only about music. Before coming to Poland his agency contacted my beloved VIVA , asking to provide a pro-vegan and animal liberation information stand during Moz's Warsaw show.  I can also confirmed the thing (rumor) about food on Moz's shows, that ppl keep talking. It is truth that Morrissey asks venues to stop selling any food  that contains animal products, during his shows. There was no way to eat pizza or hamburger during Morrissey's gig in Warsaw. The pic i m posting here sucks, but it is the only I took. i just did bother to focus on photography. All I wanted was to enjoy Morrissey's show. Listen to his music and you will understand what I talking about. Ok, I m off to work now.

More pics from Morrisseys show here (Agencja Gazeta)

I got to see Cro Mags playing in Bydgoszcz city, few days ago. The show was simply amazing. The crowd was perfect - small club, less then 200 kids and i feel like those circumstances were an added value of that show, cuz  seeing this living legend of hardcore in such a small venue is something not easy to achieve, now days. Amazing band, amazing show.

The show's playlist consisted of:
World Peace
Show You No Mercy
Malfunction
Crush The Demoniac
Street Justice
Survival Of The Streets
Seekers Of The Truth
Signs Of The Times
Right Brigade (Bad Brains)
Attitude (Bad Brains)
Symptom Of The Universe (Black Sabbath)/Rise And Fall (Leeway) - intros only
It's The Limit
Life Of My Own
Don't Tread On Me

bonus:

We Gotta Know
Hard Times
